One day, a rich man took his son for a trip to the country. He wanted to show him how poor people lived. They spent one day and one night on the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip, the man asked his son, "How was the trip?"

  "Very good, Dad!"

"Did you see how poor people live?" his father asked.

  "What did you learn?"

His son answered, "I saw that we have just one dog at home, and they have four. Our swimming pool only reaches to the middle of the garden, while they have a river that has no end. We have lamps in our garden, but they have the stars. We have a small front yard, but they have the whole countryside!"

After this, his father had nothing to say.

Then his son added, "Thank you, Dad, for letting me know how poor we are!"

In early March last year, a storm hit the eastern United States. Strong gusts of wind broke windows and destroyed buildings. Thousands of people lost power for several days.

Huge trees came crashing down because of the storm. Reports said that one of the fallen trees might have been planted by the first US president, George Washington. The tree stood on the grounds of Washington's home at Mount Vernon, about 30 kilometers south of Washington, DC.

The tree, a Canadian hemlock, was planted near the entrance to a garden. It had a sign that read "circa 1791" on it - the year that people thought it was planted.

However, no one can be sure that Washington planted the tree with his own hands.

Mount Vernon officials say that they have collected the wood from the tree. It will be used at Mount Vernon for some special projects.
