Hello friend. I’m glad that you are interested in this topic. Let me tell you the story behind it.

Ping-pong diplomacy started in the 1970s. At the time, relations between China and the US had been cold for more than 20 years. To improve their relationship, the leaders of the two countries decided to take a step forward. A US table tennis team was invited to Beijing to play a friendly match with a Chinese team. This event helped break the ice between the US and China. It’s been called “ping-pong diplomacy”. Since then, both countries have had closer relations. People use the phrase “The little ball moves the big ball” to describe how this event changed Sino-US relations.

Dear Tom,

I’m glad that you are interested in poverty alleviation in my hometown. I’m proud to say that great changes have taken place in the past few years.

People in my hometown used to make a living in big cities, leaving their kids at home. But with the help of the local government, they no longer need to live that way. They can now stay in the hometown and still enjoy a good life. For example, many of them are selling fruit online. The government has also made efforts to improve the environment. The river that flows through my hometown is getting cleaner. Trees have been planted as well. We are starting to receive tourists.

I’m looking forward to your visit in the future. You can see how things have changed with your own eyes.

Yours,

Li Hua

Dear myself,

Today, you might be 29 years old. You mightve already achieved your dream of becoming a doctor. Youd better work in your hometown. Otherwise, I will be a little bit disappointed with you. When you were young, you saw some of your relatives die at a young age because of a lack of medical resources. The idea of becoming a doctor and helping people in poor areas became rooted in your heart. You might choose to study at a medical school after taking the university entrance examination. I know it’s been hard being a medical student, but you will be satisfied when you see the smiling faces of your patients. Try your best to save more people! I am working hard toward our shared dream right now and I’m looking forward to meeting you in the future.

Sincerely,

Li Hua

One possible version:

When I was in sixth grade, my school arranged for all of its students to get vaccinated for flu (流感).

I remember it was bright and early that day. We lined up outside the hall to get vaccinated one by one. Our teachers told us that vaccines can help prevent the spread of the flu. But I was still very scared because of some of the students' reactions. Some covered their eyes and opened their mouths wide. Others turned their faces away and cried. The longer I waited, the more nervous I became. Then it was my turn.

After a few simple questions, the doctor began to clean my skin. My heart was in my throat. I just hoped it would be over quickly. But when I got the injection (注射), I didn't feel much pain.

After the injection, I don’t think it is scary anymore. I won’t be afraid again.
